Believe it or not, the Holiday season is already upon us. As someone who’s currently writing this next to a bowl of Halloween candy, it’s hard to fathom that it is already time to start the gingerbread flavored hustle and bustle of the season. And although the holiday season is fantastic (hello Hallmark movies and peppermint bark) preparing for the holiday season is...less than fantastic. So before I have to head to Old City to get some Christmas shopping done, I needed to take a day to relax and prepare. And what better place to go than The Rittenhouse Spa and Club's Salon by Paul Labrecque.
The Rittenhouse Spa & Club on 210 W Rittenhouse Square, is nothing short of an oasis smack dab in the middle of the crowded, hectic streets of Center City. Named one of the Best New Spas in the country by Fodor’s Travel, I had super high expectations when I stepped into the Salon owned by celebrity stylist Paul Labrecque. Here’s a spoiler for you: every last one of my expectations were met and exceeded. From the moment I stepped up to the long white reception desk at the front of the salon I was treated like I was a long time patron and friend.
As a girl who’s been rocking natural hair for a little over three years, going to hair salons is nerve racking. Other natural girls can attest, we are extremely protective of our hair and very skeptical of going to get it done. Despite being comfortable in the salon, it wasn’t until I met my stylist Victoria McCutcheon, that I felt fully at ease.
After a lengthy conversation about my hair likes and dislikes, Victoria got to work detangling, deep conditioning, cutting, and giving me the best wash and go of my life. Patient, attentive, and highly skilled at cutting my hair when wet (Can you believe that? I got an amazing cut without the head damage of a blowout) Victoria (who also does weddings and special events) is now on speed dial for all of my haircuts and emergencies.
The rest of my day at The Rittenhouse was spent in complete awe of celebrity hair stylist and visionary Paul Labrecque. Awarded and selected as one of Vanity Fair’s “Top Stylists” in America, Paul Labrecque is a hair visionary and entrepreneur extraordinaire. His vibrant and engaging personality took to the stage at last Thursday’s Holiday Hair & Beauty Soiree to give what can only be described as the masterclass in chignons, deconstructed braids, and other pristine holiday styles all using his latest brand of hair extensions. Extremely personal and wildly hilarious, Paul brought hairstyles that he creates for NYFW runways and celebrities, to life in front of everyone’s eyes.
Now, the holiday season may be upon us, and our hectic schedules may be unavoidable. But this holiday season, I want you to remember to treat yourself before you treat others. Head to The Rittenhouse, get your hair done, get a massage, get a facial. Arm yourself with relaxation before battling through the holiday shopping crowds. In a few weeks I’m going to be sharing some local stress-free gift guides (Best believe The Rittenhouse Spa and Club will make the list) but in the meantime, book an appointment for some pre-holiday R&R. You won’t regret it.
