The 5 Things You Need For The Perfect “Beach Body”

Ladies, it is officially bathing suit season - Queue the loud screeching track. There's something about this time of year that frankly makes me a little uneasy. That little something is called feeling like I need to be a 17-year-old Australian Instagram model to even be suitable for the beach in the first place. And I'm tired of it. I’m tired of clutching my bathing suit cover up to my body when I’m everywhere but the water. So this year I'm leaving it all behind.

That’s why I’m going to give you the secret to attaining the perfect beach body. And this secret does not involve doing a single rep of squats. Despite what a myriad of magazines, products, and ads for the gym say, attaining the perfect beach body has nothing to do with a flat tummy and everything to do with how you treat yo self when you hit the sand. Here’s a list of five things that you need to obtain stress-free beach bliss.

1. Shades (Block The Sun Block The Haters)

If I had it my way, this summer would be called sunglasses season instead of bathing suit season. When the sun is shining and the temperature is in the high 80s, sunglasses are more than just a great fashion accessory, they are also your protection from ultraviolet rays that can cause cataracts. So if you want to drop $100 bucks on a new pair of Prada sunglasses, just think of it as an investment in your eye health and your future. Plus if you didn’t Instagram a picture of yourself in a pair of new sunnies on the beach, did you even go to the beach at all? Think about it.

2. Sunscreen (Protect Yo Neck)

Speaking of those pesky UV rays, let’s chat about sunscreen. If you are trying to avoid dry, blotchy, uneven skin then you’re going to want to stop what you’re doing and apply a quick layer of sunscreen. Actually, sunscreen should be part of your daily routine, regardless of your proximity to the beach. Make sure you protect your skin now so you don’t have to worry about serious health issues such a skin cancer in the future.

The true MVP of the season (and life in general) is coconut oil. There are over 100 ways to use this life-changing wonder oil but let’s narrow down some benefits of using it for those warm days at the beach. Coconut oil is an amazing moisturizer that leaves your skin smooth and hydrated pretty much all day long. Not to mention that it improves the appearance of stretch marks. Coconut oil also does wonders for your hair. Spending all day in the water can be refreshing but unfortunately, salt water does leave your hair dry, dull, and lifeless. After you finish rinsing off for the day, throw a little coconut oil in your hair to restore your hair back to its rightful glorious place.

Before you crack into that Mango-Rita don’t forget to appropriately hydrate. Water is going to be your saving grace all summer long so don’t skip out on it. I’m all about the occasional sugary alcoholic beverage or a summer IPA, but balance is key for a perfect beach body. Make sure to reach for your water bottle between every drink or have two servings of 16oz of water for every hour you’re out in the sun. Hydrating will keep you energized and keep your skin clear and blemish free.

The beach is the perfect time to rock that no make-up look. But if you’re anything like me, you’re not going anywhere without making sure your eyebrows are on fleek. The beach is no exception. Grab a waterproof eyebrow pencil or eyebrow gel and focus on creating a subtle natural look (a la Beyonce). Concealing under and over the eyebrow isn’t necessary unless you’re 100% sure your product won’t budge.

Now that spring is coming to an end, I’m going to be discussing more beauty and fashion hacks to get you through the scorching hot months ahead so stay moisturized, stay hydrated, and stay tuned.
