I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but kiss your PSLs and fall kimonos goodbye, because the temperature is dropping and the season of fall is on it's way out. Soon, it will be winter coats, peppermint bark, and polar vortexes.
If you're anything like me, you'll want to hold on to fall as long as you can. And with careful layering and some bomb-ass coats and jackets, you too can preserve your chic autumn style while sipping on hot chocolate from a controversial red cup.
1. THE DENIM COLLECTION
If you are looking to up your street cred, look no further than the denim jacket. Top denim and a great pair of oxfords can give your favorite fall outfit new life and warmth. On top of that, adding patches to your denim jacket is not only fun way to wear your heart on your sleeve but also one of the biggest trends of the season.
A leather jacket can take your from daytime, to night time, and all the way around the world. You'll be hard-pressed to find a jacket that can flawlessly go in and out of every different style and trend. This fall the biggest trend was the warm suedes and wide pants of the 70s. For a new fall to winter transitional look, take your inspiration from a different decade altogether. Match your leather with slim tailored pants and a black cashmere turtle neck for a late 1950s beatnik look.
You're probably a color blocking wizard already. So why don't you try your hand at texture blocking - and a statement coat like this one is the perfect opportunity to give the new trend a go. A mix of faux leather and speckled black and white fabric, this kind of coat is for a person who means business. But don't let that stop you from jazzing this little number up for a night out. Match this coat with over the knee chunky boots and a minimalistic patterned dress.
When I say that I've literally stopped traffic in this coat, I'm actually using the word literally correctly. Coats like this bring manrepelling to a whole new level. Tailored to be simple but colored to make you stand out, when you put this coat on you transform into a fashionista. Layer textures and patterns for the ultimate manrepelling outfit and add a large scarf for warmth and extra glamour.
The final stage of grief is acceptance and eventually you just have to accept the fact that warmer days are behind you. When the end of November hits, denim and texture blocking won't do. If you live in the northeast like I do, you're going to need to pull out the big guns. But don't just settle for any lame old parka - Bundle up in style. Look for warmth and accents like large collars and distinctive buttons. When picking a winter coat, pick something that matches most of the bottoms of your wardrobe. And always match a classy coat with a classy pair of sunglasses and a scarf.
